Clean Your Gutters

Clean Your Gutters

When the leaves are coming, down they always seem to find your gutters and downspouts.  It’s time to clean them out!

Plugged gutters cause more roof leaks in the winter than in any other season.  This is because a plugged gutter causes the formation of an ice dam.

This is how it works.  Water trapped in the gutter freezes.  Every time water is added, it gets trapped and then freezes.  When a thaw occurs, the melt-off can’t escape out the gutter and instead seeps under the roofing material.  This is called capillary action.

So as you can see, it’s really important to get those gutters cleaned out before winter!
